Where My Faith Meets The Quiet
I’ve learned over the years that faith doesn’t always show up in the big moments. For me, it’s rarely loud or dramatic. It’s quieter than that — something that sits underneath the day, steady even when I’m not. Something that stays with me in the pauses, especially the ones fibro and anxiety force into my life.
Living with fibro has slowed me down in ways I never expected. It interrupts plans, reshapes mornings, and creates gaps in the day that I didn’t choose. Anxiety adds its own weight, turning simple thoughts into complicated ones and quiet moments into something louder. But somewhere inside all of that, my faith has become the place I return to — not out of obligation, but because it’s the only thing that feels solid when everything else shifts.
Most of the voices I’ve found talking about fibro are women. Their honesty has helped me more than they know. But I’ve also noticed how rarely men speak about chronic pain, or anxiety, or the softer parts of faith. Maybe we’re not used to talking about these things. Maybe we don’t know how. Maybe we’ve been taught to keep quiet about anything that feels vulnerable.
I don’t want to speak for anyone else.
I don’t want to claim authority.
I just want to write from where I stand — as a man living with fibro, navigating anxiety, and trying to hold onto a faith that feels real in the ordinary moments.
My faith isn’t perfect. It’s not polished. It doesn’t always feel strong. Some days it’s a whisper. Some days it’s a question. Some days it’s just the simple act of turning my mind toward God, even if I don’t have the words. But it’s part of me, and it shapes how I move through the world — slowly, quietly, honestly.
Small Pauses is where all of that meets.
The slow mornings.
The foggy afternoons.
The moments when pain forces me to stop.
The moments when prayer feels like breathing.
The moments when I’m not sure what I believe but I reach anyway.
I’m not here to preach.
I’m not here to convince.
I’m not here to present faith as a solution or a cure.
I’m here to write about what faith feels like in a real body, on real days, in the quiet spaces where life actually happens. If someone finds comfort in that, I’m grateful. If someone simply feels less alone, that’s enough.
If you’re here reading this, I’m glad you found your way in.
Whether you share my faith, or you’re unsure, or you’re simply curious — you’re welcome here. This is a space for honesty, for reflection, for the quiet in between.
I’m writing from where my faith meets the pauses.
That’s all I can offer.
And maybe that’s enough.
